Read as MarkdownEvery visit opens Home with your widgets just below a compact toolbar. Talk with Kin starts a conversation; on phones it is the toolbar’s chat icon. Choose the Space wordmark or Home to return there from another page. Leaving Chat for Home releases the browser’s attachment to the conversation while Kin can keep working; your unsent message stays available.
Find your way around
The sidebar opens Chat, Projects, Files, Source, and Terminal. The workspace name opens its Overview. Your account menu opens Your profile, Settings, and the Space user guide on this site.
Collapse the sidebar with the control beside the wordmark or Ctrl+B (⌘B on a Mac). The narrow icon rail remembers your choice. Hover or focus an icon for its label. On phones, use the navigation drawer.
The search control, or Ctrl+K / ⌘K, opens the command palette. Type a page, session title, or action such as “history” or “Paper.” Select the matching row. The palette can also send a question to Kin.
The ⓘ beside a control gives a short explanation. Hover or focus it to read, tap to keep it open, and press Escape or tap elsewhere to close it.
Arrange the board
Your home fills the page with separate widget cards. The grid fits the available width, with one column on a phone and up to four on a wide screen.
- Choose Edit home.
- Drag a widget by its dotted handle. The highlighted edge and floating label show whether it will go before or after another widget. Release to place it; dragging near the top or bottom scrolls the page.
- You can also use the Move earlier and Move later buttons, or focus a handle and press an arrow key. These controls work without dragging.
- Use Small or Wide to switch sizes, the settings control to configure a widget, or the trash control to remove it. Wide spans two columns where there is room; both sizes fill the width on a phone.
- Choose Done, or press Escape. Escape during a drag cancels that move and leaves editing open.
Changes save as you make them. If a layout cannot be saved, your arrangement stays visible and Retry save tries again. Wait for the saved state before reloading or leaving Home.
Add widget opens a gallery with descriptions and sizes for built-ins and custom widgets found on your Space. Widgets already on the board are marked On your home. Choose a widget to add it and enter Edit home with its handle focused. Make one with Kin opens Chat with widget-authoring guidance in your draft. You can open the gallery before entering Edit home.
Removing a widget from the board does not delete a scratchpad file or a custom widget’s files.
Sessions returns to live or saved conversations. Recent files opens a file; its separate Discuss control adds context to a message. Kept close returns to artifacts you pinned.
Write a note or scratchpad
Choose Add widget → Welcome if you want a greeting and personal note on Home. This optional card can be moved, resized or removed in Edit home. Use its pencil to edit the note. Enter or leaving the field saves; Escape cancels. Settings → A note for your home edits the same saved note, even when the widget is absent. Removing the Welcome card keeps your note for later.
The Scratchpad is an ordinary file, initially ~/Workspace/Scratchpad.md.
It saves after a one-second pause and when you leave the field. Wait for its
saved state before reloading. Kin can read and edit this file too.
If another editor changes it, Space shows the newer text. Choose Use the newer text to accept it, or Keep mine after checking what would be replaced. An unsaved-change prompt offers Stay so you can retry a failed save.
Scratchpad settings can choose another relative file path. Its containing folder must already exist; Files can create it.
Change appearance and time
Settings → Appearance offers Graphite, Paper, or Device. Device follows your system’s light or dark setting. Clock settings choose 12- or 24-hour time, seconds, and up to three additional time zones.
For a custom board item, continue with Artifacts and widgets.
