Accounts and models

Choose your picture at the bottom of the sidebar, then Connections. It lists Kinra, ChatGPT, GitHub and Tailscale. Each says how it stands in one word beside its name, such as Connected, Waiting for you or Needs attention, and what it is for in a line under it. Once connected, it shows what it holds: who is signed in, which models, which GitHub account, which tailnet. Beside the title, Connections says how they stand together, such as All connected or 1 needs you. Refresh Connections in the top bar reads them all again. Signing into Space, connecting a model, and allowing an operation are separate steps. An older link to your profile opens Connections.

Who you are is under Kinra → Signed in as. The name comes from your Kinra account when you sign in. If the account gives none, Space uses the part of your email address before the @. The picture is the one on your Kinra account; without one, Space shows the first letter of your name. To change it, choose Manage identity beside Kinra. Space shows the new picture within about an hour of your next visit, or when you next sign in.

A failure stays under its connection, titled with what could not be done and followed by its reason. A check that could not finish, such as GitHub could not be reached, offers Try again. A connect, disconnect or repair that failed says the connection could not be changed, such as Your Tailscale connection could not be changed; settle the reason, then use that connection’s own action again, such as Sign in again, Reconnect Kinra or Repair connection. An unavailable choice explains what it still needs.

Check the Kinra connection

Setup begins after Space sign-in and refreshes while it finishes. If offered, choose Continue account setup or Reconnect Kinra and follow the flow. A connection that is not ready explains the reported state. Its green mark indicates that Kin reports the connection ready.

If Kinra refuses the connection, Kinra reads Needs attention, says Kinra access is unavailable for this account with the reason, and offers Sign in again.

Suspending a Space ends its Kinra credential, the connection that gives Kin the Kinra models, and stops the Space: its address says it is paused until the person who looks after your Space resumes it. A resumed Space never reconnects on its own. Open Connections and choose Reconnect Kinra. If Kinra still refuses, it says your Space is suspended and offers Sign in again; ask the person who looks after your Space. A sign-in or account setup cannot resume a suspended machine.

Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT brings the models in your ChatGPT plan to Kin. What she does with them counts toward your plan’s usage. You connect it yourself, from any device signed in to your Space.

1. In Connections, choose Continue with ChatGPT. Three steps open under ChatGPT.
2. Choose Open ChatGPT. Sign in if ChatGPT asks. A first connection also asks you to choose a workspace and to allow Kin to use your plan. The sign-in waits five minutes.
3. ChatGPT then sends your browser to an address beginning http://127.0.0.1. That page does not open on your device, which is expected: the address belongs to your Space’s machine. Copy the whole address from the address bar.
4. Return to Connections and paste it under Paste it here. Pasting it finishes the sign-in, or choose Finish sign-in.

If it is not the address ChatGPT sent you to, Finish sign-in says so and leaves it in the field to correct. Cancel connection, under the steps, stops a sign-in you no longer want.

Where the Kinra Space app supports it, Open ChatGPT there opens ChatGPT’s sign-in in a sheet inside the app, and the second step says Come back to Space: ChatGPT brings you back once you have approved Kin, and Connections finishes the sign-in itself, with no address to copy. Stay on Connections while you sign in; leaving it closes the sheet, though switching to another app, such as Mail for a sign-in code, does not. Space also holds off loading a new version of itself until the sign-in is done, since a reload would end it.

If the sheet cannot finish, Open in browser, beside Open ChatGPT, takes the browser path above: copy the whole address your browser is sent to and paste it under Paste the address if you need to. Closing the sheet leaves the steps and the waiting sign-in as they were. If the app cannot open or keep the sheet, Connections says so, and the next Open ChatGPT opens your browser instead.

The sign-in waits five minutes. If that time passes, Connections says so: choose Cancel connection if the steps are still showing, then Continue with ChatGPT to begin again.

Once Kin reports the account and its models ready, ChatGPT says Connected and shows who is signed in, Using your ChatGPT plan with Manage usage, and the models. The first sign-in that allows your plan says so once, in You’re using your ChatGPT plan, with a link to ChatGPT’s usage settings.

If the sign-in ended before you pasted the address, Connections says so; choose Continue with ChatGPT to begin again. A saved account signs in as itself; Use another account, under the steps, begins a sign-in for a different ChatGPT account or workspace. If you signed in without allowing Kin to use your plan, ChatGPT reads Needs attention and offers Allow plan usage. A connection made before Space 0.31 needs one new sign-in, and ChatGPT says Sign in to ChatGPT again.

Disconnect… signs Kin out of every ChatGPT account you connected on this machine once you confirm. Kin stops using those plans until you connect again. If ChatGPT does not confirm the sign-out, Connections says so and links to ChatGPT’s settings, where you can remove Kin.

An older installed Kin that still provides a device code keeps its existing Continue in ChatGPT flow. Space shows those instructions only when Kin actually supplies the code and link.

Connecting ChatGPT keeps Kinra’s default model until you choose another. Model choices come from the Kin version installed with your Space and the connected account; see Kin’s ChatGPT models. A newer Kin release does not change your Space’s choices until the Space update that installs it has finished.

Choose a model

The control at the lower edge of the composer shows the current model when Kin knows it, and its reasoning beside it. A model that has a short name shows by it: the Kinra Gateway’s model appears as kinra-35b-a3b. Open the control to Choose Kin’s model…, with the connected accounts and their models. Under ChatGPT’s models, Using your ChatGPT plan links to Manage usage. Choose a model and supported working-mode or reasoning settings. Unavailable settings explain why they cannot be selected.

From the keyboard, each account’s model list is one Tab stop: Up and Down move through it, Home and End go to its ends, and Enter or Space chooses the focused model. On a phone, tap its row.

If the models could not be read, choose Try again inside the picker. A failed model change reports there too. Wait for Kin to reconnect before changing an existing session’s model or reasoning level.

Choosing a model applies it and leaves the picker open, so you can set its Reasoning effort in the same visit. Close the picker with Done, Escape, the close control, or a click outside it.

Some models only think or answer straight away. For those, such as the Kinra Gateway’s, the picker offers Reasoning with On and Off instead of effort levels, and the control says “Reasoning on” or “Reasoning off”. A model set to no reasoning effort says “Reasoning off” too.

Each model remembers its own reasoning effort. The level you choose returns whenever you use that model again, in this session or a later one, and a model you have never set a level for starts at a middle one rather than none, or On when it only turns reasoning on or off. Before a session exists the picker offers the levels that model had last time; a model you have not used yet shows them once a session starts.

New sessions use the Kinra Gateway default unless you explicitly choose another model. Your choice is remembered for later new sessions. Returning to an existing session keeps that session’s own model. You can choose a model before starting your first session.

If your saved ChatGPT model is no longer offered, the picker explains that it needs replacing for new conversations. Choose an available model explicitly; Space does not silently switch you to Gateway or another ChatGPT model. A message that could not start stays in your draft. After choosing a model, send it again. Existing conversations keep their model and history, subject to the provider continuing to serve that model.

A conversation carrying customer records may show Custody beside its model. It uses Kinra-operated inference; see Servers and customer records for the model and approval boundaries.

Connect GitHub

1. Choose Connect GitHub beside GitHub in Connections.
2. Complete GitHub’s device sign-in using the displayed link and code.
3. Return and wait for GitHub to say Connected, signed in as your @handle, which links to your account on GitHub.
4. Choose Repositories… beside GitHub to open Your repositories on GitHub. Search them or filter by owner and visibility. Bring in as a workspace… begins a clone; Use as portfolio…, in a repository’s …, begins portfolio setup.

The dialog’s first line says who GitHub knows you as, Signed in as your @handle, and what the dialog is for. It says more about the connection only when GitHub needs attention, with Repair connection, or could not be reached. In your Space marks repositories that are already a workspace here, with Open workspace beside them. Refresh repositories reads the list again, and Close or Escape closes the dialog. GitHub… in your account menu opens the same dialog.

When GitHub needs attention, Connections offers Repair connection, which repeats the device flow. Disconnect…, beside Repositories…, asks you to confirm with Disconnect and keeps existing clones. Until GitHub is connected, the dialog and the portfolio wizard show it as Connections does, with Connect GitHub.

Review Git access

Connecting GitHub makes credentials available; Kin still asks you to review their use. Inspect the operation, repository, remote, and credential identity. Choose Use once, For this session, Remember this connection, or Decline according to the scope you intend.

If Kin needs GitHub before it is connected, her request shows GitHub as Connections does, with Connect GitHub. Finish the sign-in there, then choose Review Git access to make that decision; it waits until GitHub is connected. Provider sign-in alone does not approve the pending operation.

Sign out of Space

Use Your account → Sign out. This closes Kin and terminal connections in every tab sharing that Space sign-in. Expiry does the same. Kin retains work and the machine retains your shells, including anything running in them; sign-out is not deletion or a provider-account revocation.

Signing out of Space does not sign you out of your Kinra account at Pocket ID. While that sign-in lasts, Come inside or the front door can bring you back in without asking again.
