Typed Current Projection
One machine-readable current.toml declaring exactly which documents, artifacts, and values are current, each with its meaning.
Read as MarkdownTier: 1 · Normative weight: implements TM-CUR-001; supports TM-MOD-004
Requires: Status Lines
Problem it removes
“What is currently deployed / selected / true?” has as many answers as there are readers. The newest file wins, or the most confident document wins, and nothing distinguishes the selected state from the five preserved alternatives that still parse.
Mechanism
One current.toml holding the repository’s declared current selection:
a schema version, the workspace identity, the repository’s canonical branch
and human index, and typed arrays of what is current — records with their
expected status markers, artifacts with their exact digests. Every entry
carries a meaning field, so a later mismatch reports its significance,
not just two differing values. The file gives the current selection a
single deterministic answer (TM-CUR-001) and each declared thing a stable
identity — the current-state clause of TM-MOD-004; evidence and
publication identities arrive with the Tier 3–4 packet patterns.
The projection is declared, not observed: it states what should be true, and changing it is an ordinary reviewed edit. Machinery that checks the declaration is the next pattern, not this one.
Cost
Authoring: an hour to decide what “current” even enumerates — usually the most valuable hour of the tier. Per change: one TOML edit per real state change, in the same commit as the change itself. Per session: none.
Do not adopt when
The repository has no state beyond its source — nothing is deployed, selected, or current in any sense a commit does not already capture.
Evidence
Assessed in inference-ops and cloud-ops; the same shape governs the kinra-corpus record selection.
Template
templates/current-projection/current.toml,
typed by
projection.schema.json —
validate the projection whenever it changes; a typo in the file that answers
“what is current” should fail before the read runs.
Related patterns
Human Index is the same selection rendered for people; Governed Read holds the two in agreement mechanically.
